You would be very happy with a large HDTV that is 3D ready. Samsung makes several different ones and are reliable. If you have not seen the new 3D TV's, you would be amazed! It is like you are right there in the movie. The 3D IMAX movies are just wonderful! The clarity and depth 3D gives these nature and biographical movies is worth the 3D blu ray player and glasses you will need to get the full 3D experience. This is not a fad like the old red and blue glasses that we used to watch 3D movies with. Now with today's technology you can enjoy a real full 3D adventure right at home. Samsung's plasma TV's seem to be the best for this. Yes. some movies, with today's special effects do pop right out of the TV screen. The 3D movie "Under The Sea" narrated by Jim Carrey is a wonderful IMAX movie using this new form to great advantage. I felt as though I was actually swimming through the coral reefs, as fish and other sea life pop out of the screen so close you reach out to see if you can touch them. It is that great! You will be surprised, and your family and friends will be amazed and jealous. You notice that more and more movies are being released in 3D. Don't hesitate to be in the forefront of this new and exciting form of entertainment!

sylvania, haier and the like are by some considered to be low end because they are cheap. that is not true however. given a choice between the three I would chose sylvania unless you are planning to simplify your system with a universal remote control (most controls dont have codes for certain types of sylvanias.) many reviewsof haier were almost brutal. back light and contrast issues, a color pallet that is limited in adjustibility, technical issues with display and the color black being closer to gray just to name a few. given the choice between the three I would choose sylvania. better over all reviews, and image quality compared to the others. but if you dont want to get one of those, go down town and look at a sharp, or a samsung. some people really love the 1080 progressive scan and the picture is great. I dont know if all of the sylvanias fingerhut offers has a 1080p available, but if it doesnt the 720s are also picture pretty.

When I was growing up Magnavox and Sylvania were household names and also were known as top of the line for the longest time. I still have an old magnavox TV in my home that is at least 30 years old and like the enegizer bunny....it keeps going and going!! Sylvania was also known as one of the top brands and I have owned one of those also.......as far as flat screens I can't comment on them, because I never owned one....but my son purchased one, not sure of the brand and 2 months later had to send it out to replace a lamp..It cost him 200.00....it is an LCD TV....I heard from friends not to buy plasma TV's....hope this is helpful

Try Consumer Reports. They have a website. They are not sponsored by any brand. All the products they test (from food, to TVs to Cars) they actually buy and test it. They also survey consumers and ask how items they've used perform. I'm taken part in those surveys and they are very long and detailed (you get a form and you rate producst in yr home - listing brand, when you bought it, how many times it has gone in for service). In the end they tell you what brands perform best and what brands go in for service more based on their research.

Most of the tv's out there are flatscreens.
And most of the flat screens are junk.
I have had 2 new flat screen tv's and both are name brands , And both of them weren't worth bringing home.
I've had to send 1 off for repairs twice now And the other is working But the quality just isn't there.
I had an older tv fixed recently and i was told by the repairman who had been in business for 30 plus yrs NOT to buy flatscreens, Because most of them cannot be repaired, And that the makers of flatscreens designed the tv's for familes that don't watch them very much because of thier busy lifestyles.

Check with Consumer Reports. They test the products extensivly to get their performance ratings and through questionaires to their subsribers they determine how reliable each poduct will be. An online subscription is $20+ for 1 year.. This will be the best money you will spend. The Nov, 09 magazine issue has hdtv's ranked by performance and the Dec, 08 issure has their frequency of repair info..I have used CR's info for about 30 years and I have never been disappointed.
